About Me

I'm an English teacher, mother to two small boys and life-long reader. My love of books was instilled by my dad - the most voracious reader I know - and his taste in stories has definitely stuck with me: He used to read me The Hitchhikers Guide when I was little, and the first book he leant me was Masquerade by Terry Pratchett. To this day, I love a bit of absurd sci-fi/fantasy.

Since starting my teaching career, I see an important part of my job as doing the same for my students as my dad did for me - getting young people excited about reading. With the help of our school librarian, I have run lots of fun events to show how enjoyable, and even sociable, reading can be.  We've had Roald Dahl Day, photo booths, All Hallows' Read, Secret Santa books, Speed dating, a Where's Wally literacy day, Shakespeare's 450th birthday, Carnegie Award shadowing... And that's just this academic year!

I'll mostly review YA books on this blog, as I read a lot of it in order to have discussions with and make recommendations to students. However, as I will be teaching A level Literature in the very near future, there should be some scope for some more adult books as well!
